what I’ve learned this week 5/8
first and foremost, … don’t trust complete strangers with sensitive things, especially two weeks before an important event (love you hun)
…sometimes not winning at trivia gets trumped by having a good time
…sometimes you have to listen to the CDC and get your honeymoon plans screwed up
…and sometimes, not yelling back at a teenager with an emotional problem makes you a better person.. and makes them look like the child they are
What I’ve learned this week 5/1
much like all other weeks, this weeks was slow… although it WILL be picking up in 3 weeks
…… trivia can once again be fun!!
…… morons who are sore losers can ruin the biggest of victories with the sourest of grapes
…… giving up is sometimes not a good option
…… Bea Arthur was an excellent comedianne
Thursdays used to be special!
Recently I’ve found some TV offerings dismal
aside from my usual NBC favorites, I recently started watching CBS’ much hyped “Harpers Island”, it’s some horror schlock that CBS had green lit and felt comfortable enough to pair it with CSI as it’s lead in. For the uninitiated, Harper’s island is a fictional island in the pacific northwest, on said island a nasty murder took place in 2001 or 2002. In the shadow of these dastardly murders, each episode is chock full of assorted cast members taking turns playing ‘hide the sausage’ or ‘Hey I have a vagina and I want to use it’, All in all the show comes off as half soft core porn half B-Movie.
What IS worth a watch is NBC’s new Thursday night offering “Southland”, from the producers of “ER” and “Third Watch”, Southland is set in Los Angeles, has a large and impressive cast (too large of a cast actually). Southland much like Third Watch takes you into the cops lives, shows you how they’re normal people or how they’re freaks. I’m surprised at how much it has surpassed Third Watch, (as much as I love Third Watch , it sucked because it was 2 shows in one, they should’ve taken a page from vet producer Dick Wolf and kept NYPD and FDNY seperate on the show) but I digress. And unlike Harpers, Southland actually has some direction with the story lines and better production over all.
*As I write this CBS has moved Harpers to Saturday Night where its SURE to find viewers!……. sad enough, I’ll probably still watch
What I’ve learned this week (late edition)
well, it’s late cause I had to take a day off for muh birthday
gardening can be fun
a movie date birthday can be really fun
sometimes you have to let go and trust other people in that they’ll deliver on what they promise
I guess all in all I didn’t learn all that much this week, and that’s still allowed
Rest In Peace Dorothy
I caught a quick mention on Yahoo of Bea Arthur passing away, she was most famous for portraying Maude, Archie Bunker’s polar opposite. But I will always remember her as Dorothy Zbornak, one of the funniest characters ever on NBC’s 80s sitcom The Golden Girls http://omg.yahoo.com/news/golden-girls-star-bea-arthur-dies-at-86/21766?nc.
week update 4/17 aka What I’ve learned
if you’re going to a Winn-Dixie AKA Satans Pantry AKA “Gettin Smellier all the time” AKA The Value Card Store make sure to lock your doors. In my most recent trip all I ended up getting boosted from my truck was a rinky dink radio that I use to listen to NPR on weekend mornings. No Harm No Foul…
…not everything has to be done tomorrow
but when it comes to a wedding, better to plan ahead, we’re slowly getting stuff done, we’re going down the casual wedding path a sort of tropical/caribean gathering if you will.
… it is actually possible to re-read my favorite book thirteen years ago and discover new things about it, it’s even scary to see how that book inspired my own writing, it’s funny actually when i think about it.
sleep is never over rated, SLEEP! IS NEVER!! OVER RATED!! adequate sleep helps your body fight off disease, helps you fight off Zombiness, I mention this because the lack of sleep I receive on sunday nights going into monday morning/afternoon has been effecting my substantially….. SLEEP IS GOOD!
… not winning at trivia sucks
Mash Potatoes with no gravy
I caught a quick blurb about Billy Bob Thornton canceling his Canadian tour, it has mostly to do with a clip that has gained alot of airplay recently on the web. Billy Bob was doing an interview with a Canadian radio show host and apparently became snippy when the shows host mentioned his acting career, or more to the point I believe he said that Billy Bob’s first love was acting. While I do agree that Mr Thornton did display alot of douchery with how he reacted to the interviewers question he is entitled to make his own observations. (I suggest searching for said clip on youtube, I’m too lazy to link it). Further along in the interview Billy Bob compared Canadian audiences to mash potatoes minus the gravy, again he IS entitled to his opinion but it appears he’s being judged by a mistake he had made out of anger.
I’ve been to Canada and really liked it there and I’d venture a guess that most Canadians are probably not as rowdy as American audiences when it comes to certain venues or music types, but i hardly think that they should boo at BB Thornton.
weekly update 4/10
again a semi-boring week
..wedding date is getting closer and we got some things accomplished this week. and we will both look quite stylish!
..birthdays are also coming up and for the first time in a few years I will have my birthday off from work (WOOHOO!)
..sometimes you REALLY have to pick and choose who you take to trivia night with you
.. i might through some of my support behind the Kansas City Royals, after 2 seasons of coming in mostly dead last in the standings i think they are due for an impressive year
Yeah so Im jealous
Apparently Horatio Sanz, the Chilean born SNL star of the early 2000’s, has mastered something I could never master, self control, (or GB which I can’t afford)
I was caught off guard the other night, I settled down for a night of amusement on NBC and was NOT amused to find an all night wake for E.R. instead so I switched channels. Before settling on some cable show which I can’t remember right now I passed by ABC and some show was on. The gist of which is some funny ladies that have mommy troubles* and blah blah blah was on when all of the sudden my better half yells out, “wait, was that Horatio Sanz?, he lost weight!,” upon switching back and doing a
quick IMDB search and lo and behold it was him, or atleast it looks like him. It looks more like a skinny person is wearing a Horatio Sanz suit.
Congrats you skinny bastard!
* the formula seems trite and the ensemble of many funny people is hard to pull off lately in this reality show rich environment. Cheryl Hines and Horatio can pull it off but I really can’t get passed Megan Mullaly.
weekly update 4/3
been a typical week, and here it goes
the humidity has come back early to the FL, hopefully May will be a little bit more hospitable?!?
trivia can still be profitable, sometimes a little less then others
as aggravating as some things might be… sometimes you just have to swallow it up and take it and hopefully not have a heart attack, things might change in a few months
if you’re reading a book that revolves around a family of rum makers it might be a good idea to let my temptations not get to me so much and have a regular coke as opposed to rum and coke (due to the fact that I work 60+ hours a week it takes me a while to read a book, therefore that temptation has been around for a month or so)
before I know it, I’ll be on a boat
