just another day

What I’m not liking

I haven’t learned anything lately so I thought I’d rather share things that I don’t like or I’m not enjoying.

The continued coverage of Jon Goselin, while I try not to take sides in psuedo-z list celebrity wars I can’t help but want to drive a screw driver into my ear whenever his name is mentioned. I don’t feel sorry for him nor his estranged wife because I don’t approve of ANYONE procreating to the point where they have THAT many children. so about 10 things to hate right there.

The New York Yankees, Yankees fans, their continued sense of smugness (both Yankees and their fans) enough said I just don’t like either of the two.

The Fox News channel and their completely BS so-called fair and balanced act, many people seem to be fooled and that’s quite unfortunate. When you claim to be non-partisan and you OPENLY tell you’re readers/viewers HOW to take part in tea-party demonstrations you are CLEARLY picking a side, in that same vein I highly doubt that they (or their local affiliates) wouldn’t dare tell their viewers were to go to a healthcare rally but would probably tell them which rally they can take a Kalashnikov to.

busy work

what I’ve learned this past few days…

… having a moderately successful show on basic cable which examines you and your life and how you exploit your children is NEVER a GOOD IDEA. I don’t believe in schadenfreude, but in the case of Kate Gosselin I welcome it! Where the hell do I start?

… the real estate market seems to be doing better, particularly where me and the Mrs. are looking to rent.

… sometimes a good movie can be a great escape (I’ll blog about it in a moment)

…  in the end, patience can be a virtue

we did

… we finally made it down the aisle, or in our case down the sidewalk toward the gazebo.

The reception went better than I had planned. No fights, no loud words. Being legally drunk for 80 percent of the day didn’t hurt matters any. Most of the food didn’t go to waste, more than half of the keg was consumed, and Porky the Slaughtered Pig was delicious.

I’m by NO means an expert on anything let alone married life, but from what I’ve felt so far… it’s not all too different from living together in sin.

on a boat

we made it to the boat despite some last minute scares. We quickly adapted to the cruise lifestyle, lounging around and drinking drinking DRINKING! The ports of call were as I imagined they’d be. Aside from Hemingway’s house and some assorted stops here and there, Key West seems like one big happy hour, by 2 o’clock we were suffering from heat exhaustion so beer was the last thing on our minds.

Cozumel was the second stop on the drunk americas tour. I felt like i was in the middle of George Lopez’s comedy act, I couldn’t help but think of him while we were walking through the plazas “My fren my fren, looka mira, you like belts?” The pressure was on for the vendors because our boat was the first one that had docked at the port in 40 days, the Governor of the region was there and so were the local media. Cozumel was definitely worth while, we took an educational tour/Hiking tour through the Mexican desert in San Gervasio,Cozumel learning about Mayan culture. Apparently honeymooners have been making pilgrimages to Cozumel since Mayan times, according to our guide the site at San Gervasio was the stop all newlyweds made in order to pay respect to the fertility gods.

Our third stop was Belize City in Belize, like Cozumel we made another educational tour. We toured another Mayan site and we really enjoyed ourselves. What we learned (aside from the obvious educational stuff) chubby people shouldn’t hike especially in a tropical climate.

Meanwhile, ON THE BOAT! we ate our weight in steaks, lobster, chicken and deserts.

And back on land I developed an inner ear infection when I got back, not to fun when the room spinning but your sober.

Next Obstacle, finding and moving into a new house

roundup

I can’t think of a catchy title, so that’ll have to do for now. I’m going to be married in less than a week and I won’t be writing on here for the rest of May so I thought I’d do a “Best Of” or all I’ve learned type of list here

I’VE learned

In single life…

… it’s always darkest before the dawn.. sounds horribly cliche but it actually holds alot of water. When we are down and out, want to give up and jump into that volcano we don’t actually see the future possibilities, the future parties, dates, loves, all around good times and bad times (that make us appreciative) ahead.

… ..it doesn’t matter how toys you collect… it truly doesn’t matter because I ended up buying alot of them back on ebay, but in retrospect you have to remember that possessions don’t last forever

…a life together..

…. pick your battles… doing an extra menial task sounds annoying but if it saves me from getting beheaded? so be it, it actually sounds like I’m complaining too much there, I actually don’t mind doing those so called menial tasks, when everything is put into perspective, I do those things because I love her….

LISTENING is KEY!!! … there are a few things that you’re allowed to forget, at the risk of getting in trouble I won’t mention any right now, but you really do want to keep open ears!! this fact goes hand in hand with another good basic fact, Silence is Golden! sometimes we have to shut up in order to hear what other people are saying, all the more important when the other peson is the love of your life.

…..if I think of more I’ll add through comments

what I’ve learned this week 5/8

first and foremost,  … don’t trust complete strangers with sensitive things, especially two weeks before an important event (love you hun)

…sometimes not winning at trivia gets trumped by having a good time

…sometimes you have to listen to the CDC and get your honeymoon plans screwed up

…and sometimes, not yelling back at a teenager with an emotional problem makes you a better person.. and makes them look like the child they are

What I’ve learned this week (late edition)

well, it’s late cause I had to take a day off for muh birthday

gardening can be fun

a movie date birthday can be really fun

sometimes you have to let go and trust other people in that they’ll deliver on what they promise

I guess all in all I didn’t learn all that much this week, and that’s still allowed

week update 4/17 aka What I’ve learned

if you’re going to a Winn-Dixie AKA Satans Pantry AKA “Gettin Smellier all the time” AKA The Value Card Store make sure to lock your doors. In my most recent trip all I ended up getting boosted from my truck was a rinky dink radio that I use to listen to NPR on weekend mornings. No Harm No Foul…

…not everything has to be done tomorrow

but when it comes to a wedding, better to plan ahead, we’re slowly getting stuff done, we’re going down the casual wedding path a sort of tropical/caribean gathering if you will.

… it is actually possible to re-read my favorite book thirteen years ago and discover new things about it, it’s even scary to see how that book inspired my own writing, it’s funny actually when i think about  it.

sleep is never over rated, SLEEP! IS NEVER!! OVER RATED!! adequate sleep helps your body fight off disease, helps you fight off Zombiness, I mention this because the lack of sleep I receive on sunday nights going into monday morning/afternoon has been effecting my substantially….. SLEEP IS GOOD!

… not winning at trivia sucks

weekly update 4/10

again a semi-boring week

..wedding date is getting closer and we got some things accomplished this week. and we will both look quite stylish!

..birthdays are also coming up and for the first time in a few years I will have my birthday off from work (WOOHOO!)

..sometimes you REALLY have to pick and choose who you take to trivia night with you

.. i might through some of my support behind the Kansas City Royals, after 2 seasons of coming in mostly dead last in the standings i think they are due for an impressive year

weekly update 4/3

been a typical week, and here it goes

the humidity has come back early to the FL, hopefully May will be a little bit more hospitable?!?

trivia can still be profitable, sometimes a little less then others

as aggravating as some things might be… sometimes you just have to swallow it up and take it and hopefully not have a heart attack, things might change in a few months

if you’re reading a book that revolves around a family of rum makers it might be a good idea to let my temptations not get to me so much and have a regular coke as opposed to rum and coke (due to the fact that I work 60+ hours a week it takes me a while to read a book, therefore that temptation has been around for a month or so)

before I know it, I’ll be on a boat :)

Update 3/27

well I loves me some learning and this is what has been learned

… the customer is always wrong and yeah I’m not kidding, they are . When you are given a specific set of rules and are told to govern your work area in said fashion then there’s only so much leeway that you can give to people before your job becomes pointless.

now that I got THAT out of the way..

I also learned that trivia can be profitable

given enough elbow grease, I TOO can eradicate mold and mildew!

peoples personal opinions shouldn’t bother me so much

building up a tolerance can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what it is that you’re tolerating

people might take their time responding after you kindly asked them to do so, those some people might be eating potato chips will standing in a driveway, chairless, tableless and meatless… oh well
