so called chick lit
… I was first drawn to this book because I noticed a bloody nose on the cover, (WOW what does that say about me?).. Upon inspecting the front and back covers I decided to give the book a try.
The book is done from a quasi autobiographical/introspective peek at the authors childhood diaries. Lesley Arfin takes us from her confusing preteen years through to her drug fueled adolescence. She starts off with often embarrassing entries from her diary and will update the posting by catching you up with the key players in said event. The book has some flat-out funny moments and it has … well somewhere in between her 21st and 22years I decided to skip ahead to the end, the only reason being after a while it felt as If I was the one trying to score H…. but then again Im a bit of a puss. Any-who, I HIGHLY suggest picking this book up, it’s kind of a One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest crossed with Are you there God it’s me Margret.

back on track…. sort of
after so many road blocks and little mental hurdles I’m finally finished.
If you reference my last post you’ll see that I was stuck in the middle of a book, now it wasn’t so much that I found the story boring, far from it.
I was stuck in the middle of the book “Haunted”, this past week I managed to jump my hurdles and tune out the outter world. I must say that “Haunted” turned out to be a good read, the book contains the infamous short story “Guts” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Palahniuk). not that I’m so special but I didn’t have the same reaction that the other readers/listeners had. So far though I have to say that Choke is still my favorite of his books.
reading is fundamental
Since I haven’t been on to regale you all with my rants and raves and mostly rants, I’ve been filling my ever so important time with books. It all started with a whim, I’d become curious about a book (of fiction) regarding the Life of the Pirate Henry Morgan. I have to say I found it very entertaining, considering that this was Steinbeck’s first foray into story writing.
My fiance can attest to the fact that I have A.D.D. and that becomes problematic when I try to get into a very detail oriented book. Sometime after I finished Cup of Gold I picked up a copy of Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, needless to say it was a gratuitous very detailed account of a renaissance fair worker who has a sex addiction and how he copes with his mother who is losing her mind and her life in an old folks home. I really enjoyed it
I did hit a pothole with another of Palahniuk’s works “Haunted”, it starts off as a cross between Survivor style reality show slash writers retreat that goes awry, I started the book, got half way through and let my surroundings and the holidays get to me so I’ve re-started the book and keeping notes as to what happens to whom and where.
Now I know that this is JUST a Palahniuk book I know I must seem quite feeble because I need to take notes but please consider that I work 60 something hours a week and I try to squeeze reading in there whenever I can
Haunted
Please respect that I haven’t finished this yet and I will delete anything that looks like a spoiler
thanks~
