back on track…. sort of
after so many road blocks and little mental hurdles I’m finally finished.
If you reference my last post you’ll see that I was stuck in the middle of a book, now it wasn’t so much that I found the story boring, far from it.
I was stuck in the middle of the book “Haunted”, this past week I managed to jump my hurdles and tune out the outter world. I must say that “Haunted” turned out to be a good read, the book contains the infamous short story “Guts” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Palahniuk). not that I’m so special but I didn’t have the same reaction that the other readers/listeners had. So far though I have to say that Choke is still my favorite of his books.
Hail to the Geeks
On January 14th I undertook what would be my geek challange of the month. Now since I live in a semi-rural area of florida there are no comic book stores within close range. After a mad 30 mile dash I found what I was after the highly coveted Spiderman Issue 583. Said issue has a small piece about our 44th President Barack H. Obama portraying himself and not since George W’s portrayal of Dr Doom has a President been so geeky!!
The Amazing Web Slinger is assigned to take pictures at the Inauguration when Low and Behold .. chaos ensues. Needless to say Spidey saves the day with the help of President Obama. It’s not Shakespeare but I did find it enjoyable!
reading is fundamental
Since I haven’t been on to regale you all with my rants and raves and mostly rants, I’ve been filling my ever so important time with books. It all started with a whim, I’d become curious about a book (of fiction) regarding the Life of the Pirate Henry Morgan. I have to say I found it very entertaining, considering that this was Steinbeck’s first foray into story writing.
My fiance can attest to the fact that I have A.D.D. and that becomes problematic when I try to get into a very detail oriented book. Sometime after I finished Cup of Gold I picked up a copy of Choke by Chuck Palahniuk, needless to say it was a gratuitous very detailed account of a renaissance fair worker who has a sex addiction and how he copes with his mother who is losing her mind and her life in an old folks home. I really enjoyed it
I did hit a pothole with another of Palahniuk’s works “Haunted”, it starts off as a cross between Survivor style reality show slash writers retreat that goes awry, I started the book, got half way through and let my surroundings and the holidays get to me so I’ve re-started the book and keeping notes as to what happens to whom and where.
Now I know that this is JUST a Palahniuk book I know I must seem quite feeble because I need to take notes but please consider that I work 60 something hours a week and I try to squeeze reading in there whenever I can
Haunted
Please respect that I haven’t finished this yet and I will delete anything that looks like a spoiler
thanks~
so like I was saying
ok….. yeah… it’s been a while…
Just a few things have happened since last I wrote…
I’ve re-discovered my love of books and I’ve been stimulating my brain with the classics and some not so classics
Alexis and I are a tad bit closer to the BIG DAY!
I looked in the toilet the other day and I saw the economy in there
oh yeah one more thing Barack H. Obama was elected President of the United States!!
