The McGinley Rule
It’s a long held belief in many pop culture circles that if any tv show adds Ted McGinley to their line up they are doomed from the start or rather it’s a sign that they’ve run out of ideas.
McGinley’s been on Happy Days (the tale end when Fonzie was showing his age), Married with Children (he wasn’t the highlight of that show, not by a longshot), Hope & Faith (Hope AND Faith!!?)
The only worth while things that McGinley has done, starring as Stan Gable in 1984’s Revenge of the Nerds and doing a bit part in Wayne’s World 2 as Mr Scream.
McGinley was recently announced as a candidate on the B-List life raft that is “Dancing with the Stars”, stars look to DWTS to get a bit of career Botox, and whats left at the end of that rainbow? Well you can end up MC’ing a cable dance show (Lopez, Ziering, Spice, Fatone) doing red carpet coverage for the tv guide channel (Fatone, Rhinna)..
((it’s a sarcastic rant people, leave the hate mail elsewhere)))
my latest grievance
in my humble opinion, generation Y has been mislabeled, they should have been called the direct to dvd generation.
now let me backtrack, I consider myself quite fortunate to have been born at the tail end of the gen X era. I remember when there were 3 networks, I remember saturday morning cartoons, I remember various little mid 80s staples of life such as afterschool specials and Nancy Reagan asking me to Just Say No.
Somewhere along the way, I’d say it must have been the early to mid 1990s a Disney executive decided to desecrate their collection of classics and ring out sequels left and right. Useless and pointless re-tellings of stories that ended years and sometimes decades ago. (Snow White 2, Sleeping Beauty 2 and the Ambien Dream)
This eventually spread out to all forms of movies, now not that it was such a classic but my case in point is proved with the release of Scorpion King 2……. Scorpion King 2?!?!? WTF! Was it THAT necessary? Did The Rock leave some questions unanswered in the first one? I mean with Chuck Norris in the 80’s we were taught a lesson, to hate commies, druggies and the vietnamese army, also, Chucks COUNTLESS sequels went to the theaters first.
The straight to DVD market isn’t even being used wisely, case in point Star Wars Episode 2.5, it looks like it sucks, mostly reputable reviewers have dismissed it. So it’s wasting theater space rather than entertaining an 8 year old with ADD and a sword fetish.
a different kind of blue
it has definitly been an interesting month to say the least
Whenever actors, musicians, etc; start to pass away in groups.. I , like mostly anyone else, feel sad. This sadness is only magnified because of a personal situation involving a loved one and mortality. Im trying to figure, where does that connection start? When do we adopt these celebrities as our personal heroes or friends?
I’ll try to aim for something more cheery next post
it’s a new dawn it’s a new day
well well well, I’ve come back to my neglected musings after taking a much deserved vacation. Only a few things have changed, still at the hotel, can’t say much as far as the other things are concerned. I’ll leave out the details but sufficed to say, be careful of who you trust.
my lady is still with me despite the rocky start to the summer. we’re slowly preparing for the arrival of family that will be staying with us for a week. Hopefully I will be inspired to write more, sooner rather than later
